Bishop Laura Merrill has announced her intention to appoint Rev. Jennie Williams as lead pastor for Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, effective July 1, 2023.
Bishop Merrill stated, “I am grateful for Rev. Williams and her willingness to step into this role. She is a gifted, creative leader who will bring a spirit of possibility and hope to
the United Methodist witness in Fayetteville.
“Central has been raising up faithful United Methodist Christians in the heart of Fayetteville for generations, and I’m thrilled to see how God will continue to use Central United Methodist Church in this new season to make an impact for the kingdom.” shared Williams.
Rev. Dr. Blake Bradford, Northwest District Superintendent, shared, “In addition to being a deeply devoted disciple and outstanding preacher, Rev. Williams is
a proven innovator and unifier. She has the gifts and experience to guide Central UMC into its next season, leading the congregation as it connects to the diverse and dynamic Fayetteville community.”
Rev. Williams received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, and her Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. She is currently serving as lead pastor at Elm Springs United Methodist Church and
previously served as associate pastor at Highland Valley United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
While serving Highland Valley United Methodist Church, Rev. Williams also served as preaching pastor for The Journey. She launched this cross-cultural and multigenerational worship community that provided inclusive worship, discipleship, and service opportunities for youth and adults in the local community.
“Arkansas United Methodists have witnessed the people of Central UMC
Fayetteville model humility and grace in an incredibly painful and complicated situation. I’m proud to be a part of a church who loves Christ and loves others.” Williams added.
She is married to Brandon Williams, and they have two children, Clarke (8)
