January 6, 2021 was a very sad day for our nation. Watching the violence unfold at the U.S. Capitol building was heart breaking. I am still somewhat shocked that this occurred. I could not have imagined something like this happening in my lifetime. This is not the identity of America. I was disheartened and outraged to see such a
disruption of violence and chaos in the revered halls of our democracy.
The people of God are called to pray! Let us pray for peace, an end to violence, a stop to hateful rhetoric and a peaceful transition of power. Let us pray for civility, respect and tolerance. Let us pray for restoration of order and rule of law. Let us pray that God will lead our country into a time of unity and ask God
to heal deep divisions. We hope for a future when those who disagree do so with civility, kindness, patience and respect. We are called to “love one another”. We are to not only love those with whom we agree but also love those with whom we disagree. Jesus even instructs us to “love our enemies”.
Central family, I know you will join me in praying for our nation. Regardless of your political views, let us come together in a time of prayer seeking God’s power and grace. More than ever we pray, God please bless America.
Arkansas Conference Bishop Gary Mueller has also released a statement regarding the capitol protests. It can be found here.
